Ré·au·mur \rā-ō-mu̅e̅r\ René–Antoine Ferchault de (1683–1757), French physicist and naturalist. Réaumur devised in 1730 a thermometer with a scale marking 0° as the freezing point and 80° as the boiling point of water. Interested in many areas of science, he isolated gastric juice in 1752 and investigated its role in the digestive process.
